It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our former Lord Prior and Prior of Scotland, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Walter Hugh Malcolm Ross GCVO, OBE, GCStJ.
Current Lord Prior of the Order of St John, Professor Mark Compton AM GCStJ, released this message to announce the news on Sunday 27 October:
"It is with the greatest of sadness that I advise you of the passing of our former Lord Prior and a Bailiff Grand Cross of our Order, Sir Malcolm Ross.
"Lady (Susie) Ross advised that Sir Malcolm passed away in hospital following an acute illness. Susie was with him in hospital and at the time of his passing.
"This news has come as a terrible shock to us all, especially as many of us saw Malcolm in London just a few weeks ago.
"I'm so sorry to be the bearer of this very sad news. Malcolm was our much loved Lord Prior for the three years leading up to St John Day this year. He provided strong and steady leadership to us all and enriched so many lives especially through the many visits to St. John Establishments that he and Susie undertook. He will be missed by so many people across the St John world.
"In addition, Malcolm was a highly respected servant of the Crown, serving in Buckingham Palace for many years and subsequently making a major contribution to national life in Britain.
"We send our prayers, thoughts and love to Susie and her family at this terrible and tragic time.
"May he Rest In Peace and rise in glory."
