A Royal Premiere for Prof Paul Mealor LVO and the St John Scotland Festival Choir
On a truly unforgettable day at Crathie Kirk, the St John Scotland Festival Choir had the honour of performing for Their Majesties The King and Queen, marking a very special occasion - Their Majesties’ 20th Wedding Anniversary.
The centerpiece of the event was the world premiere of ‘The Weather of my Being’, a moving new composition by Professor Paul Mealor, St John Scotland’s Director of Music. Commissioned personally by The King and Queen, the piece was presented and performed in Their Majesties’ presence for the very first time by the St John Scotland Festival Choir.
Speaking about the event, Professor Mealor shared:
“An incredibly special day indeed to present to Their Majesties The King and Queen my new work, ‘The Weather of my Being’... and to premiere it for them at Crathie Kirk! Many congrats to all the singers in the St John Festival Choir for singing so beautifully!”
The performance opened with a stirring rendition of ‘Ride on in Majesty’ by Dr John Frederick Hudson, setting the tone for a morning of powerful music to mark the beginning of Holy Week.
