Since the New Year, the Librarian has expanded the online Author-Index Catalogue with the addition of about eighty-five books and journal articles, which he hopes will be of interest to Order members in Scotland.

 

New acquisitions include:

 

The First Ten Years’ Working of the St John Eye Hospital, Baragwanath, 1951-1961, Johannesburg: Die St John Oogheelkundige / St John Ophthalmic Foundation, 1962.

[Baragwanath is situated in the Soweto area of Johannesburg. The Dept of Ophthalmology, the St John Eye Hospital, is now a department of the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the third largest hospital in the world. The Priory for South Africa of the Order of St John – stjohn.org.za – operates a dozen Eye Care Centres across South Africa. In 1962 the Sam and Dora Cohen Foundation was established. This endowed the first full-time Chair of Ophthalmology in South Africa at the University of Witwatersrand.]
