St John Eye Hospital, Jerusalem
The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group is the only charitable provider of specialist eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. Supported by St John organisations and individuals around the world, the hospital delivers world-class, sight-saving treatment to thousands of patients each year, regardless of ethnicity, religion or ability to pay.
For many years, St John Scotland has supported the Eye Hospital through a substantial annual grant, funding key areas of work. Most recently, this has included outreach clinics that bring expert eye care directly to some of the most vulnerable communities, people who would otherwise have little or no access to treatment.
In the past year, St John Scotland-funded outreach clinics reached approximately 15,500 patients, more than half of whom were children. Around 10% were referred to the main hospital for further specialist treatment.
St John Scotland has also contributed to the construction of two important facilities within the Eye Hospital Group: the Hebron Hospital, which opened in 2015, and the Kufur Aqab Clinic, which opened in 2022. Both have significantly improved access to high-quality eye care for communities across the West Bank.
Through sustained partnership and generosity, St John Scotland continues to help restore sight, prevent avoidable blindness, and transform lives.
