At this year's Festival of St John, held in Dundee on 22 June, Douglas Dow KStJ retired as Chancellor of the Order of St John in Scotland after seven years in the role.
Mr Dow was admitted as a Member of the Order in 1985, promoted to Officer in 1993, Commander in 2003 and Knight in 2012. He was made a Knight of Justice in 2016.
He joined the Chapter of St John Scotland as a Representative Officer in 1997, was was made Standard Bearer in 2002, and became Director of Ceremonies in 2009. He was elevated to Chancellor 2011, which office he has held since, and making him the longest serving current member of Chapter.
Mr Dow remains Vice-Chair of St John Scotland's Dunbartonshire Area committee and an active supporter of their activities including CPR training and fundraising can collections.
At the Festival, Prior Major General Mark Strudwick CBE KStJ thanked Mr Dow for his long service to the Order of St John in Scotland, and wished him the best for the future as he takes more time to enjoy hobbies and spend time with his grandchildren. He also acknowledged the unstinting support of his wife, Alice, throughout his 33-year long association with and work for St John Scotland, which we are delighted he will continue.
Mr Dow is replaced as Chancellor by The Rev Canon Dr Joseph Morrow CBE KSTJ QC DL.
