THE MILITARY ORDERS
A Selected Bibliography
WHAT started out as a purely private ‘book-keeping’ exercise might, I hope, be of some reference value to members of the Priory of Scotland. By the very scale of the subject covered in so many languages, such a Bibliography must be selective.
Many of the books listed I have obtained over the last twenty years or so from English antiquarian booksellers; a few, such as Hume (1940), were acquired while on a visit to Malta in 1996, and one (Schermerhorn, 1940) was bought from a bookseller in Philadelphia. Patience is the key; the copy of Belabre (1908) took several years before it appeared unexpectedly like Excalibur. And one pounces!
