Public Access Defibrillators

Around 70 people each week in Scotland have a sudden cardiac arrest at home, work, or in a public place.

Currently, only around 1 in 12 survive. Using a defibrillator alongside CPR can greatly increase survival rates, but to be most effective, a defibrillator needs to be used within the first 3-5 minutes of collapse.

That’s why St John Scotland is working to increase access to the life-saving devices in communities across the country, so they are available 24/7 in an emergency.

For communities, individuals and charitable groups For businesses In Edinburgh and South East Scotland

Our Community Defibrillator Project helps provide defibrillators in parts of Scotland where they are needed most.

It gives community groups, charities and similar organisations the opportunity to apply for funding towards a Public Access Defibrillator and heated outdoor box.

Applications to the project are assessed on the need in the local area, taking into account the location of any existing defibrillators nearby.

Alongside the equipment, we also provide CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions in the community, to help more people be aware of cardiac arrest and how they can help save a life in an emergency.

We can offer equipment at a discounted rate through our supplier.

As well as giving access to discounted rates, once your defibrillator is installed, our local volunteers will deliver free CPR and defib awareness training to your business and the community.

The St John and the City defibrillator project matches donors (individuals, business and community groups), with host venues across Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
